WELCOME:
In 2012, I began working with discarded materials retrieved from various isolated areas in the Southwest. The abundance of "trash" in the wilderness areas astounded me and I began to sift through fields of wasted materials, load them into my backpack and carry them back home for further review. The "Reclaimed" series was born. The collection of reclaimed materials has been slowly transformed into a thing to be appreciated again. This series looks at death, loss, grief and transformation in my own personal life.
I am slowly beginning to think about ways to expand my work even further into the "Created" series, where I think I may play with ideas of life, creation, spirit and growth.
RECLAIMED:
A journey through the vast wilderness of decay, death and life after death.
This series looks at death, loss, grief and transformation in my own personal life.
Using discarded and forgotten trash left to weather in nature. Wandering in solitude through dry riverbeds, along dusty desert roads; lost in the stillness of these places and the silence in the answers being sought. Embracing nature and form as a reminder of the beauty of life and the permanence of matter. Acceptance of loss through reclaiming material possessions thrown out and abandoned. Seeking understanding of matter, energy, life, loss and the connection through the transforming of the objects into an abstract pure form. Reclaiming life after loss.
